Just saw “The Greatest Show On Earth” for the first time in many, many years. I felt like a kid again.
Pretty amazing.
Lawn chairs, camping chairs, blankets. All grouped together like the patches of grass on the park grounds. A relaxing night downtown, topped off with cheese, crackers, grapes, and wine. A dixieland band (or swinging big band) serenades the predominantly elderly crowd from the center gazebo.
But in my young age, I am no different than them. I’m here for Evenings in Olde Seville.
It’s a wonderful thing, that some traditions still live on happily in this town.
The ambiance of the restaurant Twist glowed with glitz and glamour. Women congregated, dressed to the nines, sipping cocktails, sharing tapas, and chatting with excitement over the S&TC movie.
And while I, too, was dressed to kill (with the movie on my evening agenda), I felt out of place. There was something a little impersonal about this eating establishment, and many of the others that I visited in metro-ATL. I felt no affinity for this large city, as Carrie did for Manhattan. How is it that in a place that “had it all”, I was still missing something?
I might dream of fancy restaurants in my home town. I might yearn for something trendy, something sophisticated. But I also enjoy the casual, laidback atmosphere of beach nightlife. Where you don’t have to pair Manolos or Jimmy Choos with frivolous dresses. Where flip-flops are encouraged, adored. Where shorts and tanks are the norm. Where you don’t have to pretend to have it all. Because you already have it all.
The Simple Life. The Good Life.
Have I mentioned that I’m really tired of all the moving?
Exhausted is the understatement of the month.
I just have the kitchen. The kitchen has been last every time.
I’m looking forward to being done with it all.
It’s 8:21 PM and my computer has found its permanent residence in the guest bedroom/office.
The very first thing I did once the “unpacking” phase began was hook up my television. It was the quickest way to find out whether or not I had internet. I was thrilled to bits when I saw that my cable had already been turned on.
So of course the second thing I did was hook up my computer. And my clothes and kitchen stuff are still at the apartment.
You know where my priorities are ;-).
